Abstract
The fate of the Jews in Banat is in many ways different from the fate of Jews in other parts of Yugoslavia, and even in other places that have been under the rule of fascist Germany for a longer or shorter period. In Banat was a large group of Germans - Volksdeutschers. They called "Švabe", and by this name, they had their own organizations. Although the percentage of Germans in Banat was relative to the rest of the population, it was not significantly higher than in other parts of Yugoslavia. Nevertheless, the influence of Banat Germans was far greater than of Germans in other parts of Yugoslavia. The Germans at Banat did not hide that they felt no obligation to obey the civilian authorities in Belgrade. They used every opportunity to Germanize Banat. The local Germans made Banat the first administrative unit in all occupied Europe, where the deportation of Jews was consistently and fully implemented.
