Abstract
Mechulam from Voltera is the oldest known Jewish traveler to describe Dalmatia so far. Although brief, its description of some parts of the Adriatic coast from 1481 interested Jewish historians, as foreign authors' data on the eastern Adriatic from that time are rare. Meshulam ben Menahem from Voltera lived in Florence in the second half of the 15th century and was a goldsmith. He traveled to the Eastern Mediterranean and Palestine several times and described with a lot of details his experiences as well as the places he visited or traveled through.
