Jakob Weiss: zagrebački veletrgovac i manufakturista (1764-1835)

Abstract

Opći procvat trgovine, prometa i privrede, koji je u XVIII stoljeću zahvatio i ove krajeve, omogućio je krajem istog stoljeća i pojedinim židovskim doseljenicima sudjelovanje u trgovačko-privrednim poduhvatima. Tako je nakon Josipova edikta o toleranciji zapažen sve veći udio Židova u trgovini, koji će se daleko više osjećati tek u sljedećem, XIX stoljeću. Jakob Weiss došao je u Zagreb godine 1789. godine i uz Stieglera je jedan od najstarijih židovskih doseljenika u Zagrebu u XVIII stoljeću.

The general flourishing of commerce, traffic, and economy, which in the eighteenth century also came in these regions, enabled some Jewish settlers to participate in trade and economic endeavors at the end of the same century. Thus, after Joseph's edict of tolerance, an increasing share of Jews in the trade was noticed, which would only be felt much more in the next, nineteenth century. Jakob Weiss came to Zagreb in 1789 and along with Stiegler is one of the oldest Jewish settlers in Zagreb in the eighteenth century.
