O Jevrejima u Srbiji (od početka XVIII do početka XX veka)
About Jews in Serbia - from the eighteen to the beginning of the twentieth century
When Austria conquered Belgrade's fortress and its suburbs in 1718, more than a hundred Jews were in Belgrade. With the Austrians came the Ashkenazi, who were Austrian citizens, more civilized, used to the customs of the Austrian empire, more agile and thus more advantageous than the native Jews. Upon the return of the Turks, almost all Christians and some Ashkenazi left Belgrade. The position of the Jews improved significantly under Knjaz Miloš, so that, later in 1878, the Jews in all rights would be equalized with the rest of the population.
