Abstract
The largest Jewish settlement in Slovenia was in Maribor. Jews were present there as early as Roman times, although there are no archaeological or historical documents, except for the Roman coin founded in the ghetto houses. After the Migration of the People, Jews appeared in Maribor in the 9th and 10th centuries, and in large numbers between the 12th and 14th centuries. They come from the north, mostly from Germany. The oldest document referring to the Jewish quarter in Maribor dates back to 1277.
