Otpuštanje Jevreja službenika Opšteg jugoslovenskog bankarskog društva a.d. 1940. godine

Abstract

U Kraljevini Jugoslaviji je otpuštanje Jevreja iz nemačkih firmi postalo praksa još 1938. godine. Ovaj članak posvećen je jednoj, po svojoj suštini sličnoj pojavi, s tim što je reč o ustanovi koja je, prema svim tada važećim zakonima Kraljevine, bila jugoslovenska.

Since 1938 Yugoslav Jews had the impression they lived in a country which considered them to be an interior political problem. This impression was reinforced by the anti-Semitic propaganda conducted in newspapers "Vreme" and "The Balkans", and the restraint reflected in "Politica" and "Pravda" newspapers with the highest circulation. This was due to the enormous economic and political influence which Germany had on the official Yugoslav policy and on 5 October 1940 (for the first time in the history of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia) resulted in discriminatory measures against Jews, and Yugoslav nationals. Three months prior to issuing anti-Semitic decrees Yugoslav General Banking Joint-Stock Company, the bank with dominant German capital, without knowledge or approval of Yugoslav authorities, dismissed about 40 employees of Jewish origin among whom were several executives, deputy directors and procures who had been for more than ten years main gateposts in the business policy of the bank. This was the first mass dismissal of Jews from a Yugoslav institution.
