Abstract
Tokom 20. veka njihov broj naglo opada.
The Jews of Erdevik (municipality Šid) are mentioned for the first time during the first half of the nineteenth century. From that time their number continually increased from 10 persons in 1847 to 55 in 1900. During the twentieth century, their numbers dramatically diminish. The Jewish Religious Community of Erdevik was established in 1883, covering the settlements of Erdevik, Bingula, Čalma, and Divoš. All the Jews of Erdevik, residing in the village when the war broke out perished in the Holocaust. The Jewish cemetery in the village has been preserved and contains 42 graves. The registry books of the Israelite Religious Community of Erdevik have been preserved for the period 1849-1940. All the registries have registry forms, with legends in Serbian language, written in Latin script. Almost all the entries were made in German, and only in some cases, the family names were in Serbian transcription. The registry books are presently kept in two locations - the Historical Archives "Srem"... in Sremska Mitrovica, and in the Municipal Office of Erdevik.
