Iako nije bilo popisa stanovništva 1941. godine, analizom vjerodostojnih dokumenata mogli smo dobiti relevantne podatke o židovskoj populaciji u Hrvatskoj i njenoj cvatućoj zajednici pred Drugi svjetski rat.
The arrival and settlement of Jews in Croatia are part of the general migration movements in Croatia. We have to distinguish between two basic areas: northern Croatia (including Slavonia) and Dalmatia. Migrations in Croatia largely depended on political circumstances and rulers... Even in conditions of numerous restrictions and changes, Jews in the observed time of two centuries became a highly educated and economically established population, whose contribution to the general development of society cannot be ignored. Each census analyzed tells us about one of the stages the Jews went through, from settlement until 1941, when the community was destroyed. The analysis of several generations of Jews shows their constant social progress, because the new generations, born in Croatia, were educated at prestigious schools in the country and abroad, and very socially and economically integrated and even assimilated. Although there was no census in 1941, by analyzing credible documents we were able to obtain relevant data on the Jewish population in Croatia and its flourishing community before the Second World War. Censuses after the Second World War show all the tragedy that befell the Jews in Croatia, their almost 80% suffering and the consequences on their age and gender structure and the associated changes in economic and social status.sr
