O razvoju zanata i delovanju esnafskih organizacija u Beogradu prikupljeno je dosta arhivske građe, napisane su značajne studije, ali smo još daleko od toga da možemo smatrati da je ovo poglavlje privrednog razvoja našeg grada izučeno i naučno obrađeno. Ovaj prilog nema drugih ambicija osim da pomogne istraživačima, da im učini dostupnim jedan vredan arhivski dokument.
U trećoj deceniji XIX veka, u Beogradu počinju prva značajnija pregrupisavanja zanatlija u esnafe. Zatečeni “turski” zanati i zanatlije i novi “nemački” koji prodiru sa severa dovode do osnivanja esnafskih organizacija koje će štiti majstora zanatliju ali i zanat. Zanatima se u Beogradu bave Turci, Srbi, Grci, Cincari, dok je među zanatlijama bilo izuzetno malo Jevreja. Zna se da su se pojedinim zanatima bavile samo određene nacionalne grupe stanovništva, pa će Jevreji za samo nekoliko decenija preuzeti primat u boltadžijskom, trgovačkom, špekulantskom, sarafskom poslu, kako se to vidi iz jednog dokumenta koji je povod ...ovom članku.
Within the context of the research of the Belgrade economic life in XIX century, i.e. the development of the craftsmanship and organized guilds, the author has selected and analyzed this document - the request of the Belgrade Jewish Community submitted to the Belgrade Town Council for the acceptance of its 90 members into the merchant's guild. This request was instigated by the order of the Belgrade Town Council (1660/1861) for the creation of the registers of the guilds’ members. About 60 Jewish craftsmen and merchants were already registered into various guilds but the Jewish community has in this request listed 90 more, noting down all the pertinent data, thus enabling us to estimate the extent of the Jewish participation in Belgrade economy and commerce in the second half of the last century. Besides quoting the relevant data on commercial activities the complete list of the proposed Jewish community members is also given.
