Some holidays and customs among the Jews have a more recent date, but many dates back to ancient times. The main annual holidays at that time were adapted to the life of farmers. Passover was a holiday of spring, Shavuot was a summer holiday of harvest, and Sukkot was celebrated in autumn when fruits were gathered in the fields and harvested in the vineyards. Later, these holidays acquired the character of historical and religious holidays. In the time of the Greeks and Romans, the Jews could not save their country from foreign rule through uprisings and wars, but the constant struggle for freedom made them spiritually strong and faithful to their national culture. During the Middle Ages until the end of the 15th century, a fixed order was generally established in the internal life of the Jewish communities. Habits and customs were not the same in all details, nor in all the countries to which the Jews were expelled or displaced. However, it was a general rule that Jews, wherever they were, live their own lives, adapting to the conditions of life that took place around them. This process of adaptation was primarily reflected in the language. Scattered across many countries, they could not preserve a common language. They accepted the language of the environment, but they included many words from Hebrew, the language of their prayers, religious customs, schools and literature. On that way, the two main languages of the displaced Jews appeared: German-Jewish or Yiddish and Spanish-Jewish or Ladino. Throughout history, Jews have been largely persecuted, and their religion and customs banned. And in such circumstances, they, either publicly at the cost of their lives or in hiding, kept their identity in their homes by respecting the laws of the Torah, celebrating their own holidays and respecting to customs.en
