Život i običaji u nekadašnjoj jevrejskoj Mahali
Life and customs in the former jevrejska Mahala
Apstrakt
"With these notes, we want to evoke and preserve from oblivion the life of a world that is gone today, a world that for centuries has given a specific character to one part of Belgrade, completely different from other parts of the city at that time. In addition, we wont to leave recorded ritual and folklore customs that originate from two civilizations: one native, Jewish, and the other - customs brought as a cultural heritage from a former Spanish homeland. After World War I, the "Jevrejska mahala" lost its character exclusively to the Sephardic region. Moreover, during World War II, its Jewish inhabitants were almost all destroyed as victims of the Nazi genocide".
